Frequently Asked Questions
ABOUT SAFE HAVEN RECOVERY CARE

What is your role in my recovery?
I consider myself a doula for plastic surgery recovery. While I am a registered nurse, I do not act as a medical provider. Meaning, that my role with you is not to replace your surgeon or their team. All medical decisions, interventions, advice, and instructions always come directly from your surgical team. My role is to be your steady, calm presence during recovery—helping reinforce your surgeon’s instructions, assisting with day-to-day recovery needs, and making sure you feel supported, safe, and cared for while your body heals.

What is your background, and why should I choose to work with you?
I am a registered nurse (RN) with over nine years of clinical nursing experience, including five years working exclusively in plastic surgery and cosmetic medicine. During that time, I worked closely with two nationally renowned plastic surgeons, gaining extensive, hands-on knowledge of both surgical procedures and the post-operative recovery process. This is not general caregiving or basic companionship. I understand the nuances of cosmetic and plastic surgery recovery—what is expected, what is normal, and when something may require further attention by your surgeon. My experience allows me to anticipate needs, recognize early concerns, and support recovery in a way that is informed, calm, and grounded in real clinical experience. You are not hiring a rotating team or a general caregiver. You are receiving dedicated support from a highly experienced professional who understands plastic surgery recovery inside and out while still operating strictly within a non-medical, supportive role.

Do you have other caregivers on your team?
No, and that’s very intentional. All care is personally provided by me. I don’t rotate caregivers or subcontract support. That way, you always know exactly who is with you, and you never have to adjust to someone new while you’re recovering. You’re choosing Safe Haven specifically for my experience, judgment, and approach to recovery, and that level of care is something I believe should never be handed off.

Is Safe Haven Recovery Care a medical service?
No, Safe Haven provides non-medical, doula-style recovery support. I don’t diagnose, prescribe, or make medical decisions. Everything I do follows your surgeon’s instructions and focuses on comfort, organization, safety, and emotional support. Those are the parts of recovery that often get overlooked!

Do you work directly with my surgeon or surgical office?
Safe Haven operates independently and is not affiliated with any medical provider, medical practice, or surgical center. However, I do follow your surgeon’s post-operative instructions and can communicate with their office when appropriate! I care for clients recovering from surgery with board-certified plastic surgeons all across the country.

Since you are the only caregiver on your team, what do I do if you aren’t able to take care of me?
I’m really glad you’re thinking about this—it shows great planning! Life can be unpredictable, so I always encourage my clients to have one or two trusted backup options in place, just in case. With that said, I also have a network of experienced recovery professionals across the country that I can recommend if needed. My goal is always to help you feel supported, no matter what.

SERVICE AREA & TRAVEL

What areas do you currently serve?
I travel wherever your surgery and recovery are taking place—locally in Austin, throughout Texas, and across the United States! Services are based on where you’ll be recovering, not where you live.

Do you travel to clients?
Yes, I always come to you! Whether you’re recovering here in Austin or elsewhere in the country, I travel directly to your recovery location. If I’m traveling out of town or out of state, I usually arrive a day or two before surgery so we can meet in person, prepare your space, and make sure everything feels calm and ready before surgery day.

Who covers your travel expenses?
I do! Clients are not responsible for covering my airfare, lodging, meals, rental car, or travel-related expenses. You are paying for my time, presence, and dedicated care. If you prefer that I stay at your recovery location, I’m happy to do so in a guest room or on a couch!

Do you charge travel fees locally in Austin?
Travel within 15 miles of my home base is included. For client locations between 16 and 30 miles from my home base, a $25 per-visit travel fee applies.

OVERNIGHT CARE & SCHEDULING

Do you stay overnight? If so, where do you sleep?
Yes, overnight care is absolutely an option! If an overnight stay feels supportive or necessary, I’m happy to stay with you. I usually sleep in a guest room or on a couch—whatever works best for you and your space.

Am I billed even when you or I are sleeping?
Yes—and here’s why. When you book overnight care, you’re reserving my continuous presence and availability, not just active tasks. Even during rest or sleep, I’m nearby, attentive, and ready if you need anything.

What if I don’t need you to stay overnight with me? Where do you stay and am I still billed for your time when you are not in my presence?
That’s completely okay! For local Austin care, I return home and you’re not billed while I’m away. For Texas and National Haven packages, I secure my own accommodations and remain fully on-call and dedicated to you during that time. Even if I’m not physically in the room or residence overnight, that time is still reserved for you and your recovery.

How long do clients usually hire you for?
Most clients book between three and five days, depending on the procedure and level of support needed. However, some prefer me to stay with them an entire week!

Do you ever care for more than one client at a time?
No, I intentionally work with one client at a time so you have my full attention. You’re never sharing care or competing for support.
